Cosmic River
Myrna Peña-Reyes
Riverbed sky
river of stars
swirling down the canyons of night
stillness of light—
From what celestial mountains
flow headwaters that feed
the springs swelling
that shining stream?
Who set the floodgates open,
coursed that cosmic tide up there
eons ago and still to come,
eternal witness to the clamor
on our world? Perchance, too,
sometimes glancing upward,
we may once more remember
stillness wonder awe.

(Deprived of the night sky in the big city, may Marj rediscover it once again in the probinsya of her childhood. I share “Cosmic River” here in acknowledgment of her deep spiritual and mystical side that shapes her character and informs the making of her lovely, exquisite poetry)
